Why ZIP System Sheathing Is Changing the Way High-Performance Custom Homes Are Framed

One system we frequently see specified on high-performance custom homes is ZIP System® sheathing.

Unlike a conventional wall assembly that typically uses structural sheathing followed by a separate housewrap, ZIP System combines structural wood sheathing with an integrated water-resistive and air barrier. Once the panel seams and critical transitions are properly sealed with approved ZIP System flashing products, the sheathing becomes part of a continuous building-envelope system.

ZIP System is not simply a different type of plywood or OSB.

It is part of the home's building envelope.

That means framing accuracy and flashing workmanship directly influence how successfully the system performs.

We are skilled framers who understand more than where walls and rooflines belong. We recognize how structural framing interacts with windows, doors, parapets, roof transitions, exterior finishes and the continuous air and water-control layers surrounding the home.

On complex custom projects, seemingly small details during framing can become significant problems once exterior finishes are installed.

Luxury construction is about more than what you see when the home is finished.

Some of the most important craftsmanship disappears behind drywall, stone, stucco and cabinetry.

Straight walls, properly framed openings, accurate elevations, carefully executed rooflines and a well-detailed building envelope create the foundation for everything that follows.

ZIP System is one example of how modern building materials and skilled framing can work together to create homes designed for greater durability, efficiency and comfort.

Because exceptional homes aren't simply finished differently.

They're built differently from the frame out.
